Prize of $1,000 to a Virginia poet in recognition of outstanding works of poetry. The recipient of the award must be a poet born or living in Virginia or a past long-term resident. One poem will be selected to receive the prize and will be published in the online literary magazine, "Shenandoah."

The Graybeal-Gowen Prize honors poets living in or born in Virginia, as well as those with long-term residency in the state in the past.

No Washington and Lee staff, faculty, or their families are eligible.

Pre-Application Information:

Shenandoah will be open for the Graybeal-Gowen Prize for Virginia Poets from October 1 to October 15, 2021.

Submit as many as three poems. Only one submission per author at a time will be considered (no multiple submissions in different genres, please).

Submitted work should be previously unpublished in English.

Expect a response in eight to ten weeks.
