Grants to Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC nonprofits for education programs to assist low-income and underserved children and youth who have fallen further behind in education due to the pandemic. Funding is particularly intended for programs that include substantive community engagement.

2021 RFP - Priority Theme Education Achievement Gap:

Programs that seek to address in concrete and measurable manner the persistent education achievement disparities affecting low-income communities and communities of color, which have been exacerbated by the pandemic of 2020. The achievement gap is not a new problem to education. However, recent reports suggest that due to COVID-19, students are at risk for significant learning loss.

Proposals must address the following thematic criteria:

  • Target population: Youth between 5-18 years old enrolled in elementary school, middle school, high-school or GED (General Educational Development) or not in education, employment or training (NEET) living in underserved, low-income communities.
  • Geographic targeting: District of Columbia and surrounding counties in Virginia and Maryland. Priority will be given to proposals that include, but may not be limited to, District of Columbia‚Äôs underserved wards.
  • Innovative approaches to addressing education, specifically the achievement gap in underserved communities: Emphasis on initiatives that address the achievement gap and encourage year-long learning.
  • Holistic interventions encompassing inclusive community engagement, education/training, advocacy and support services with clear links to addressing long-standing gaps in American education for students of color and high-poverty communities.

Proposals are encouraged to include ways for HTCC parishioners to become engaged through volunteer opportunities, as well as potential ways of fostering a long-term relationship between the implementing organization and the parish.
