Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Contracts for services to Virginia nonprofit and for-profit organizations, government agencies, and charitable organizations to address childhood obesity. Applicants are required to attend a pre-proposal conference prior to submitting an application. The program supports community efforts to reduce and prevent obesity in children and youth.

VFHY funding provides infrastructure support to build and sustain Healthy Communities Action Teams (HCATs). These community collaboratives drive long-term policy, systems and environmental (PSE) changes that support at least one of eight healthy behaviors that prevent and reduce childhood obesity:

  • Breastfeeding
  • Eating More Fruits and Veggies
  • Reducing Consumption of Energy-Dense Foods
  • Moving More
  • Decreasing Screen Time
  • Getting Enough Sleep
  • Reducing Stress with Increased Mindfulness
  • Decreasing Consumption of Sugar-Sweetened Beverages

The purpose of the Request for Best Value Proposals (RFP) is to solicit online proposals to establish a contract through competitive negotiations for the purchase of the implementation of childhood obesity prevention activities by the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth. These activities will be conducted through the work of Healthy Communities Action Teams (HCATs). For more information about HCATs, see https://www.vfhy.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/VFHY-RFP-Instructions-RFP-852P023.pdf#page=8.

To have the greatest impact on childhood obesity, it is essential to address policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) change. PSE strategies promote healthy behaviors by making healthy choices readily available and easily accessible in the community.
