Grants of $2,000 and grants of $5,000 to Virginia nonprofit organizations, teachers, and emergency response teams to positively impact communities within the funding source’s service area. Funding is intended to support programs and activities in the focus areas of education, community, and emergency services. Eligible programs and services directly benefit REC members.

Each grant is meant to supplement - but not replace - state, local, or other sources of funding for specific projects. Organizations seeking funding for a project that will benefit the Cooperative’s membership are encouraged to participate in the grant program.

Number of Grants:

REC will award two $5,000 grants and four $2,000 grants. There will be at least one grant from each of the three categories.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applications are open to organizations that serve REC’s membership. Applicants may include local emergency service units, non-profit organizations, and educators within REC’s service territory.

Eligibility:
- For Emergency Services, fire departments, rescue squads, police departments, and other emergency service organizations are eligible to apply if they are in REC's service territory or serve REC member-owners.
- For Community Services, nonprofits such as food pantries, free clinics, libraries, independent service organizations, and other community groups are encouraged to apply.
- For Education grants, Individual teachers, schools, literacy groups, and others providing educational services in the REC service territory - or providing services that directly benefit REC members - may qualify. Teachers or groups of teachers from grades K-12 who demonstrate creative teaching methods to students of Cooperative member-owners are eligible.

Applications can be postmarked, emailed, or hand-delivered to any REC office by October 15, 2021.
