Grants of up to $10,000 to Virginia nonprofit organizations, schools, IHEs, law enforcement agencies, faith-based organizations, and coalitions to develop and enhance prevention and education programs related to alcohol abuse. Applicants must complete a mandatory online training module prior to applying. Funding is intended to eliminate underage and high-risk drinking by building the capacity for communities to educate individuals and prevent alcohol misuse.

Applications must address at least one of the following areas:

  • Underage drinking prevention
  • Social providing or social hosting prevention
  • High-risk drinking prevention

Grantees are encouraged to build partnerships and embrace collaboration to achieve a meaningful, and measurable, long-lasting impact. Members of the EPS team stay in contact throughout the grant cycle to provide support and encourage success.

Program planning, development, implementation, and coordination costs including:

  • Instructional materials and supplies, such as online educational platform subscriptions, publications, brochures, and workbooks
  • Speaker/trainer presentation fees
  • Printing, postage, and media services, including advertising
  • Overtime law enforcement efforts
  • Purchases of food or beverage to be used during the prevention program (not to exceed 10 percent of the grant request and must meet the state‚Äôs per diem rate)
  • Promotional items appropriate for the target audience and the related prevention strategy. These items must include appropriate, actionable messaging and should be intended to provide education and promote substance use prevention
  • Equipment specifically used for prevention efforts.

Grant requests are limited to a maximum of $10,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Community coalitions, law enforcement, nonprofits, schools, colleges and universities, faith-based organizations, and prevention-related groups may apply.

One-time events and/or celebrations such as after-prom parties that do not have specific learning objectives that can be evaluated are not likely to be funded.

Funds may not be used for:
- Personnel salaries, FICA, and fringe benefits
- Operating expenses, such as rent, utilities, and internet
- Stipends for personnel and consultant fees
- Indirect cost or general conference attendance expenditures
- Travel expenses, such as mileage, airfare, and lodging
- Supplies and other expenses not directly related to the project
