Grants of $5,000 to Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC organizations to benefit the community. Applicants must submit a letter of intent prior to submitting a full proposal. Funding may be used to support projects or for general operations. Recipient organizations are based in or serving the greater Washington Metropolitan area.

The Trust’s goals are:

  • To increase opportunities for individuals for the purpose of improvement and development of their capabilities;
  • To provide relief of the poor, distressed, and underprivileged;
  • To promote social welfare by organizations designed to accomplish any of the above purposes or to lessen neighborhood tensions;
  • To enhance opportunities for education about the arts and about the environment; and
  • To eliminate prejudice and discrimination; or
  • To defend civil rights secured by law.

The Corina Higginson Trust makes grants to organizations based in or benefiting the greater Washington Metropolitan area.

The trust does not fund scholarship or brick and mortar projects.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications will be accepted from Jan 3 2020 12:00 AM (EST) to Jul 7 2020 11:59 PM (EDT).

The Corina Higginson Trust uses a two-step application process. First, submit a Letter of Intent. If invited, submit a full proposal.

For consideration in the Spring Round:
-LOIs are due the first Friday in January (if the first Friday is a holiday then the due date is moved to the following Monday).
-Invitations for full proposals will be offered in March.
-Full proposals are due in April (specific date is communicated in proposal invitations).
-Decisions will be made by June 30.

For consideration in the Fall Round:
-LOIs are due the first Friday in July (if the first Friday is a holiday then the due date is moved to the following Monday).
-Invitations for full proposals will be offered in August.
-Full proposals will be due in early October (specific date is communicated in proposal invitations).
-Decisions will be made by December 31.

All LOIs, Proposals, and Reports are accepted by email only. General inquires are accepted via phone or email.
